EMOTIONAL REGULATION IN BEHAVIORAL COGNITIVE THERAPY

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychological approach with an emphasis on cognitive processes. It considers that cognition should be used for the understanding of mental disorders. Such an approach has shown positive scientific results on its effectiveness, including with regard to emotional dysregulation. We can say that emotional dysregulation is the difficulty that the individual shows when dealing with their emotions, and may be an intensification or excessive deactivation of the emotions. Emotional regulation encompasses a set of techniques used with the purpose of seeking a better quality of life for patients with a diagnosis of psychological disorder. The purpose of this study was to know CBT and some of the emotional regulation techniques used by it in its proceedings. For that, a narrative review was carried out regarding the object of research within a descriptive and exploratory methodology. At the end of the study it was possible to recognize that according to the researched materials, that the techniques of emotional regulation prove to be efficient in the therapeutic process, since that the negative view that many people have about their emotions seems to be a complicating factor in the coping and adaptation process facing the situations. Recognizing the importance of the emotions in the psychotherapy process is a major breakthrough in attempting to relief the suffering of patients with psychological disorders. The approach of emotional regulation through its techniques can develop a fundamental key role in the therapeutic process in a way to bring significant gains to the patient.
