Abstract

This article discusses, in the context marked by the Covid-19 pandemic,
the relationship between the work of psychologists and technology. Based
on the analysis of the double role of Psychology as science and profession,
historically constructed and reproduced, the text proposes a critical analysis
of the intensified use of Information and Communications Technology
(ICT), especially regarding the activity of individual clinical care as a kind
of service in clear expansion in the current context, due to the restrictions
imposed because of the pandemic. As a preliminary result, it is observed an
unprecedented growth of registration numbers of psychologists interested
in providing online care, as much as the actions of the professional councils
aiming to inspect such practices and prevent the misuse of technology. In
this scenario, we stress the risks of the uberization of the psychologist’s work,
and a shrinking of the professional field.
