Abstract

This article reports the experience with role-playing as a tool for the development of therapeutic skills in the context of a Psychology under graduation course. The study analyzes the different steps, roles played by the students (therapist, client and debater), pedagogical potential of roleplaying in training clinical expertise recommended by Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology (EBPP) and, mainly, the acquisition of interactional
skills for psychotherapy practice. It points out the need for initiatives that emphasize the practical exercise of alterity and dialogicity, so important to the education of psychology professionals, regardless of the theoretical approach chosen; as endorsed by the most recent orientations and recommendations of the American Psychology Association (APA). Students’ feedback on the activity confirms the potential of this tool for the development of skills for the psychology clinic.
