Peter Lund's discoveries and the contributions of his scientific legacy to Mining Archeology

Working scientific knowledge with a historiographic sight is a major challenge for the historian of science. These have the job of historicizing a certain feat, character or event, seeking to assess the relevance, changes and permanences that it has caused in its time and historical context. The Historian of Science also faces other obstacles to overcome in this field of study, which will be further debated in the course of the research. This article will portray some of the life and studies of an iconic science character, Peter Wilhelm Lund, who was a leading Danish researcher who marked the history of Brazilian Paleontology and Archeology. Being responsible for research and great discoveries in the nineteenth century, about the first Amerindian populations, his findings provided great contributions to contemporary research on the subject. Despite the precariousness of scientific resources of his time, Lund left an important Scientific Legacy about the animals and humans who lived here during the Pleistocene. Through his studies, many contemporary researchers, such as André Strauss, André Prous and even the renowned Walter Neves, who will be used as source for this work, utilized Lund's theories and hypotheses to formulate and develop his new research. Thus, this research aims to analyze the relevance of Lund's findings to new studies and current research. I intend to investigate how Peter Lund promoted profound changes in the interpretation of human occupation in Brazil and its first populations, and as its scientific legacy is widespread and even today is a current source for more advanced research. For this purpose, the primary source will be Peter Lund's Book of Memories (1950), in which he made field notes of his expeditions, and the reference bibliographic source will be the authors NEVES; PILÓ (2008) and MARCHESOTTI (2005), who will portray and contextualize Lund’s findings and his scientific legacy.
