The present work seeks to show the inversion of roles between victim and criminals. In addition, the search shows the importance of the victim to the criminological phenomenon over time. In the beginning, the victim played the role of protagonist, in the so-called “private revenge”. Over the years, the legitimacy of punishment passed to the State, with the victim being forgotten in the list of punishment for criminals. Modern criminal law has created a series of mechanisms to benefit criminals, some of them referring to the reparation of the damage borne by victims, but this is not enough to show that crime does not pay. Therefore, it is essential that there is no inversion of roles between the criminal and the victims, otherwise, there will be complete discrediting of the penal system.
