The neglection of childhood is reflected not only in hierarchical relations, but also in the occupation of urban spaces. This article discusses a study carried out in Palmitinho/RS which observed how children occupy the city, characterized by the traffic on the BR 472 highway. The method used was non-participant observation. The urban planning proposals emerging from this study are presented, with “playing” as the main category for urban planning, based on the tension between the adult-centric logic and the dominance of truck traffic in the city.
