This article proposes to discuss the Crisis in education in the modern world, highlighting the tension between tradition and innovation, considering that education has the responsibility of preparing new generations for the existing world, but also recognizes that children represent something new and unexpected. For these reasons, the objective of the research is to highlight the role of education in transmitting a common world between generations. To achieve these objectives, the methodology used included bibliographical research that focused on the review and analysis of studies, books, journal articles and information extracted from electronic media pertinent to the topic studied. The results showed that education must protect the new (children and young people) from the old (the established world), while simultaneously preparing young people for the responsibility of renewing and maintaining the world they inherit. Thus, the results showed that education must protect the new - represented by children and young people - from the old, which is the already established world. At the same time, it is essential that this education prepares young people to take on the responsibility of renewing and preserving the world they inherit. Thus, we conclude that it is important for education to balance tradition and innovation, as well as authority and freedom, to promote harmonious and effective development.
