Abstract

This report describes an intervention planned as a curricular extension practice in the University Extension Actions discipline for the 6th period of the Physiotherapy course at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-MG) to raise awareness among adolescents of the importance of good posture and the prevention of pain and future problems. The action was carried out with students from the 1st to the 3rd year of secondary school, aged 15 to 19, from the Colégio Santa Maria Minas Coração Eucarístico unit. The action was divided into two stages. The first, in conjunction with the Speech and Hearing Therapy course, a questionnaire was carried out to gather data on the students' knowledge of the biomechanics of the spine, breathing and the impacts of postural deviations. Based on the results of the questionnaire, the second stage was carried out at the university's Coração Eucarístico Campus, using the auditorium, the Physiotherapy clinic and laboratory, where topics such as the anatomy of the spine, postural alterations and assessments and the benefits that exercises can have on posture and pain were discussed. During the course of the work, the dynamics and methodology were presented and the action was considered satisfactory, since it contributed to better knowledge about the spine and the quality of the students' posture, fulfilling the objective of the extension action.
