Objectives: Report the case of suggestive lung abscess in a patient being investigated for lung cancer.
Methods: The data discussed were obtained through review of medical records, interviews with the patient during the hospitalization, photographic records of the diagnostic methods that the patient was subjected to. The patient was hospitalized and monitored in the clinic sector of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Sabará Hospital, and was subjected to imaging tests, including chest computed tomography and total abdominal ultrasound, in addition to standard laboratory blood and liver functions tests.
Conclusions: Differentiating between lung abscess and neoplasm is essential to guide the appropriate treatment. This case highlights the overlap of clinical and radiological signs between these conditions, highlighting the importance of detailed complementary exams for an accurate diagnosis.
