HEALTH IN BELISARIO:

a transformative experience of community outreach and integration

Abstract

The "Health in Belisário" extension project aimed to strengthen SUS initiatives and community ties in Belisário by promoting interprofessional actions in the areas of comprehensive care, education, culture and health management. 55 students from medicine, nursing, psychology and physiotherapy courses, from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais - Betim campus, participated, experiencing a practical experience of community insertion, focused on comprehensive care for the person, family and community. Initially, the team carried out the planning using active methodologies, preparation of teaching material and theoretical alignment. Between June 28th and July 8th, 2024, various activities were carried out within the community, such as interprofessional home consultations, individual therapeutic projects, medicinal plant workshops, art therapy, photography, health educational actions aimed at children and adolescents and a health course. theater for teachers. Professionals from the health and community team participated in training in care for bedridden people, management of urgencies and emergencies and addressing mental suffering. In rural communities, conversation circles were held on health topics previously defined by residents. Students experienced a learning opportunity in a rural context, strengthening the university's social commitment and the well-being of the assisted communities.
