the pedagogical action of an extension project and an environmental education project together with the normal course in São Francisco de Itabapoana/RJ

Abstract

The Extension Project “Contributions to teacher training in São Francisco de Itabapoana based on the history and culture of artisanal fishing” together with a research team from the Pescarte Environmental Education Project (PEA) developed, between 2023 and 2024, a pedagogical action with the Normal School of the municipality of São Francisco de Itabapoana in the state of Rio de Janeiro, aimed at training teaching professionals. The proposal had as its central objective the training of future teachers based on the appreciation of local culture, recognizing it as a structuring axis for the construction of a more just, inclusive and ecologically responsible society. It is based on the principle that education is an essential path to social transformation and that the act of educating represents, in itself, an expression of hope, especially in historically marginalized contexts marked by school exclusion. The project sought to promote critical and sensitive training, which integrated traditional knowledge with school knowledge, strengthening the cultural identity of the subjects involved. This article presents the pedagogical foundations that guided the training action, as well as the strategies implemented in the school environment. This is a qualitative study, based on the reflections and experiences of the subjects of the educational process. It is worth remembering that this article is the result of research funded by the Pescarte Environmental Education Project (PEA), which is a mitigation measure required by the Federal Environmental Licensing, conducted by IBAMA.
