Abstract

Faced with the scenario of low rates of breastfeeding and consumption of foods not recommended in children under 2 years of age in the municipality of Betim, the Education Program for Work for Health -PET Amamenta Alimenta Betim was created, a partnership of the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais and the Municipal Health Secretariat of Betim, with a view to adopting effective strategies to improve the dietary indicators of children in the municipality. Eight undergraduate students from medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and    psychology courses were selected for the activities. The objective of this work is to present and discuss the experience lived from the multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity of the work team and the exchange of experiences between the different areas of health. Students, after two training courses on the subject, developed a training action in 12 basic health units. The training action consisted of a workshop with a workload of 4 hours in the form of an active methodology that was given to doctors, nurses, nursing and community health agents. The sharing of experiences and knowledge aimed at improving the food and breastfeeding situation of children in the municipality of Betim led to a gain in the quality of actions without losing the specificities of each professional. This contributed to the students experiencing the meaning of interdisciplinarity in addition to multidisciplinarity in the health area.
