Abstract

The decade of healthy aging and the extended longevity of the population are milestones and opportunities to build a more inclusive society for all ages. In this context, strengthening intergenerational relationships, whether for caregiving or social interaction, serves as a driver for universities to engage in actions that support and connect these generations, embracing their formative and social responsibilities. Extension projects play a pivotal role by connecting with communities to address these needs. This article presents a descriptive report of the experiences from the extension project "Biking with PUC: healthy aging and intergenerational actions", which promotes intergenerational interactions through tricycle rides along the Pampulha lake. This project includes elderly residents from Long-Term Care Facilities, undergraduate students from different fields, faculty members, and volunteers. The article describes the project’s organizational strategies and the roles of its four committees. The results reveal the potential of leisure activities, physical exercise, and intergenerational interactions, whether at the Pampulha lake or within the care facilities, to provide students with practical knowledge in teamwork, communication, health education, and technology.
