O conflito no Mali possui raízes que remontam à independência do país, ocorrida em 1960, e a crise atual se caracteriza como a quarta rebelião tuaregue, cujo objetivo é a independência da região norte – Azawad. No que diz respeito ao processo de resolução do conflito, o cenário atual, marcado pela intervenção da França, é complexo e pouco promissor, diante da necessidade de se alcançar uma paz durável na região.
