The Global South by the Global South?
Latin American IR writes the Middle East

Both Latin America and the Middle East are European inventions performed through diverse artefacts of knowledge that have configured territorialities shaped by essentialized cultures, thus constituting identities and otherness. In this context, social sciences have played a remarkable role in defining, describing, territorializing, shaping, moulding, and normativizing otherness making it analyzable, predictable, and, thus, controllable. Among them, in this article I am interested in International Relations (IR), assuming that this discipline has been core in the construction and consolidation of the Western political project. The Global South has also participated in this construction, although from a different positionality than that of the North. Given the links between subject, knowledge, and power, it is important to inquire what kind of knowledge on the so-called Global South is (re)produced by the Global South in order to reflect on how it participates in relations of power and ways of subject constitution. The proposal seeks specifically to inquire into what knowledge about the Middle East does Latin American IR (re)produce. This way, our objective is to critically analyze this production of knowledge in order to identify how colonial practices of power, knowledge, and being work in south-south relations.
