VOODOO the religious legacy in Haiti's cultural identity
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article presents a panoramic analysis of Voodoo and its cultural-religious legacy in Haiti. The development of Voodoo is covered from its beginnings, during the slave trade, to its consolidation throughout history, to ultimately contribute to the formation of Haitian identity itself. Furthermore, the research makes considerations about the uniqueness of Haitian blackness and the deities and specificities of Haitian Voodoo. The importance of better understanding Haitian Vodou is due to the fact that it has the same origin as what we know in Brazil as Candomblé Jeje, with both religions originating from the former Slave Coast, currently the Republic of Benin.
