Abstract

This article proposes an analysis of interdiscursivity, intertextuality and parody in the children Silm Shrek (2001). The film was chosen for its intertextual process of dialogue with other texts in the FairyTale genre and the rescue of world-known and important characters in children’s literature and their speeches coupled with parodic modes. Through a focus on the deconstruction of discourse, perception of intertextuality and positioning of the parodistic axis within the cinematographic work, classic narratives are reformulated, using elements from other texts and discourses to create a new meaning. The use oficonic characters, such as princes and princesses, heroes and villains, is given new meaning by incorporating contemporary and parodic references, questioning cultural stereotypes and values from previous works, largely based on a Western European perspective. The article explores how the film becomes a space for the negotiation of meanings between different discourses, highlighting the role of theaudience in recognizing references and constructing meaning from these overlaps.
