Abstract

Partindo de uma leitura do conto "A segunda vida", mas sem procurar fazer dele um conto paradigmático, o ensaio delimita um conjunto de figuras que permitam orientar uma revisão dos contos de Machadode Assis. Deduzem-se, assim, cinco figuras, desenho de um mapa incompleto de caminhos possíveis: a experiência, o lapso, a singular ocorrência, a loucura e o segredo.
