O papel da iconicidade da língua na literatura

Segundo a tese saussuriana da arbitrariedade do signo, a relação entre o significante lingüístico e o seu significado é puramente convencional. Embora essa tese seja, sem dúvida, relevante, ela foi relativizada por Saussure ele mesmo, ao constatar os inúmeros casos de motivação na língua. Por motivação entende-se a presença de semelhanças entre o significante e o significado. Os aspectos motivacionais da língua foram bastante reforçados a partir dos estudos de Jakobson baseados nas classificações de signos de C. S. Peirce. Tendo essas referências como pressupostas, este artigo tem por objetivo discutir os aspectos indiciais e icônicos do signo verbal para evidenciar que é na face motivacional da língua que se estabelecem as relações de parentesco entre a língua e a literatura.
