Este artigo examina o arquétipo de Luanda na memória coletiva afrobrasileira. Aborda aspectos de memória construída de transformação cri­ativa ao refletir sobre duas questões: 1) O que Luanda representou para o Brasil colonial? 2) O que Luanda representa para o imaginário afro­brasileiro contemporâneo?
