Este texto focaliza o poder do olhar a partir de diferentes pontos de vista: o do universo microfísico, em que, segundo a mecânica quântica, o observador é constituinte da realidade; o das representações artísticas – poéticas e pictóricas – nas quais o olhar institui uma realidade própria e o do mundo macrofísico em geral, em que o olhar, além de modificar as coisas, é também capaz de matá-las.
