This article presents and discusses the urban and environmental problems of Villahermosa, Mexico, with the objective of defining design guidelines for the implementation of nature-based solutions in three layers of the landscape: vegetation, water, and public space. Through theoretical and normative review, geoprocessing, and quantitative-qualitative diagnosis of the components of the study area, it was possible to define a conceptual plan of action for the landscape through a multiscale open spaces system linked to the concept of a city-body. In this analogy, the city is understood as the organism, the open spaces with essential functions for the city represent the organs, and the urban connections such as watercourses and streets determine a circulatory system that interconnects and nourishes the body. The research, which relates the city to a living organism, points to theoretical and methodological pathways to enhance the potential for transformability of the landscape.
