Human beings have potentialities that are latent in their development process and they must be stimulated in a structured and intentional way from a very early age, favoring their future development in an integral way. Aiming to go deeper into the theme in question, we systematized a theoretical framework about learning and human/child development by producing a master's thesis between the years 2021 and 2022. From this, we questioned: in what way can teachers' knowledge of theories contribute to the child's learning and development in early childhood education? Our studies on the subject led us to the following writing goal for this article: to describe and analyze children's learning and development, dialoguing with different authors and theories on the subject. We put the theories up for debate and take a position on them. We conclude that the Cultural-Historical Theory offers theoretical contributions that further assist teachers in the intentional formulation of the pedagogical work that should be done in early childhood education, in this historical time, empowering the learning process and the development of the child.
