Abstract

The teaching model based on expository methodology has yet to be effective. For this reason, methodological alternatives have been proposed to favor teaching and learning, such as those that use comic books. This study focuses on the education of natural sciences through cartoons about Energy and Matter contents. A case study of a qualitative nature was carried out at Colégio de Administração in Macaé, RJ, Brazil, where teaching and learning activities were carried out in four 50 - minute classes with 21 students from two courses of the 1st year of high school. Students responded to pre and post - intervention questions about the scientific concepts examined in the activities and the social issue. The pre-test was applied to understand the students' basic ability in reading, and the post-test to evaluate the use of comic books as didactic material. The analysis of the collected data suggests that the teaching and learning methods employed in this research are a viable way of teaching the natural sciences in a contextualized manner. The students approved the chosen didactic tool, bearing in mind that 76.2% of the students assimilated such an approach as exciting, and the other 23.8% stated that it was an incredible experience.
