Abstract

This paper presents results of a survey both quantitative and qualitative, about the reading habits, with emphasis on literary reading, of students who enter technical courses integrated into high school at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Goiás - Câmpus Goiânia. Based on Antonio Candido's conception of literature as a human right, we seek to answer the question “what do young people read?”, presenting a reflection on the reading profile of students. Candido, Paulino, Ceccantini and Cosson were used as theoretical references. The results showed a fertile dialogue between the literary works most appreciated by young people and series on streaming platforms, social networks, cinema and other cultural niches that are usually part of the youth universe. Understanding this profile can support teachers in creating new methodological strategies for teaching literature.
