Abstract

In light of the urgent ethical commitment to promote and preserve life in all its forms, and the responsibility to care for our common home, this article aims to reflect on how PUCPR’s holistic education aligns with the commitments of the Global Compact on Education (GCE) and the service-learning process. Through a critical and propositional analysis, we will explore the pedagogical approach that guides teaching practices at PUCPR; the foundational and constitutive premises of the Global Compact on Education; and service-learning as an alternative to self-centered educational models disconnected from a dialogical relationship with the world. Thus, the initial results of this research demonstrate that integrating service-learning into the Marist pedagogical project of holistic education is a concrete and highly effective response to the implementation of the Global Compact on Education. Universities must become instruments of social transformation, building spaces capable of generating hope, promoting inclusion, and strengthening the human values essential for a more equitable and sustainable future.
