Abstract

In the face of armed conflicts, socio-environmental crises, and structural inequalities, this article proposes the implementation of sustainable schools as an educational strategy for promoting peace, resilience, and socio-environmental justice. Based on an inter- and transdisciplinary approach grounded in the principles of integral ecology, Freirean critical pedagogy, and the Salesian tradition, the text argues that these schools function as formative ecosystems capable of regenerating communities affected by violence. It discusses curricular components guided by values such as empathy, inclusion, sustainability, and planetary citizenship, highlighting innovative pedagogical practices, interinstitutional projects, and youth protagonism. Drawing from international and national experiences, the article highlights the transformative potential of education in contexts of adversity. It ultimately proposes an expanded vision of the sustainable school as a territory of active hope, ethical reconstruction, and commitment to human dignity and care for our Common Home.
