Abstract

The present dissertation is articulated in three dimensions: the history of Afro-Brazilian religions in Amapá, the conception about magic based on rituals offered as religious services and, the relationship between clients and the terreiro, as well as the transition from these to santo's family. Proposing an analysis on the senses triggered and produced from the notion of magic in Afro-Brazilian religions in order to observe how it is perceived and how the ritual practices are characterized, taking into account the work linked to the search for solutions to problems such as: relationship, finances and health. The ethnographic research was carried out in terreiros of the capital of the state of Amapá, Macapá. However, the ethnographic character permeates data that go beyond the cut of the terreiros, when presenting, also, the religious trajectory of the priests seated in their memories. The research makes it possible to understand how priests and clients intersect the understanding of the ritual practices of the Afro-Brazilian religions defended as magic, attributing the effectiveness and efficiency of the rites directed to the different purposes.
