Scope

In 2027, Horizonte – Journal of Theology and Religious Studies celebrates three decades of continuous contribution to the production, circulation, and qualification of knowledge in the fields of Religious Studies and Theology.

Throughout its trajectory, Horizonte has consolidated itself as a reference space for interdisciplinary academic debate, embracing diverse theoretical, methodological, and epistemological traditions. In alignment with institutional, scientific, and social transformations, the journal has followed—and in many cases fostered—emerging agendas in the areas of religion and culture, religious pluralism, dialogue and language, religion and contemporaneity, and religion, politics, and education.

This special issue aims to provide a critical assessment of the last three decades of Religious Studies in the Latin American context, as well as to project perspectives for the future of the field.

Submissions are invited that address, among other aspects:

  • the history and development of Horizonte within the Brazilian and Latin American editorial landscape;
  • theoretical and methodological assessments of Religious Studies over recent decades;
  • transformations in the Latin American religious field and their analytical implications;
  • new research agendas and emerging challenges in the field;
  • processes of internationalization, indexing, and scientific editorial policies;
  • relationships between academic production, science communication, and the social impact of knowledge;
  • interdisciplinary perspectives and interfaces with other fields of knowledge.

Particularly welcome are contributions that articulate historical analysis, theoretical reflection, and forward-looking propositions, contributing to the strengthening of the field at both national and international levels.
