Abstract

In this paper we pursue the controversial presence of the French thinker Jean-Baptiste Roustaing in the Brazilian spiritist scene, in conjunction with the work of Allan Kardec's codification. We take as a point of reference the coordinating and representative role of the Brazilian Spiritist Federation (FEB) in the process, both of affirming Roustaing's presence alongside Kardec, and the subsequent withdrawal of Roustaing's work as recognized and recommended reading by that institution. We conclude by recognizing the importance of Roustaing's work remaining as a bibliography endorsed by the FEB, which undoubtedly points to power and identity games within the Brazilian spiritist movement.
