Abstract

This work aims to discuss that German theologians, committed to the Nazi ideology, including through the loyalty oath that made to the Führer, neither opted to the “virtual silence” nor demonstrated a “limited interest” for the historical Jesus. On the contrary, they not only potentiated the “portrait” of Jesus as an Aryan, as well as popularized through his writings, his homilies and their everyday experiences. It must be paid attention here: the consolidation of this new portrait is before the advent of Hitler, as can be read in a wide range of works, such as, for example, Ernst Renan, Theodor Keim and Houston Stewart Chamberlain. However, it is precisely when Hitler rises to power that the reading of the Aryan Jesus won a scale hitherto unimagined, since it culminates in the effective collaboration of a significant number of Christian theologians with the murderous policy of the Nazi state, culminating in the Jewish Holocaust.

Professor Associado do Instituto de História da UFRJ. Graduado em História pela UFRJ. O seu Mestrado (em História Social) também se deu na mesma universidade, enquanto que o seu Doutorado (em Antropologia Social) foi feito na USP. É Professor Associado do Instituto de História da UFRJ, atuando no Programa de Pós-Graduação em História Comparada. Tem se voltado para o estudo das experiências religiosas, em particular, na área de Cristianismo.

Daniel Brasil Justi, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

Possui graduação em História pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2010), graduação em Teologia pela Faculdade Batista de Teologia (2005), especialização em Novo Testamento pela Faculdade Batista de Teologia, mestrado em Teologia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (2011) e doutorado em História Comparada pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2015). Pós-doutor em Arqueologia pelo Museu Nacional/UFRJ. Atualmente é pesquisador associado da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, pós-doutorado em História pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em História Comparada do Instituto de História da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e pesquisador da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Tem experiência na área de História, com ênfase em História Antiga e Medieval, teoria e epistemologia da história.
