Abstract

The purpose of this article is to put forth a proposal regarding at which date the Biblical book of Ecclesiastes קהלת)  in its Hebrew form) was written, who its author was and at which place it was written. Such themes have always been shrouded in fierce discussions in the academic world connected to Biblical research. In each of the items we propose to touch upon, and the respective questions we intend to answer, we shall start by critically reviewing the proposals that have been made by the main researchers of such themes, at different times and places. Afterwards, based on them, we shall put forth a proposal regarding the three themes we deal with in this article: the date, the author and the place of the Book of Ecclesiastes. Our conclusion is that, given the fact that the Book Qohélet was written around the year of 250 B.C., it could not have been authored by Solomon, but by someone who lived in Northern Palestine, at the linguistic border with the Aramaic.

Author Biography

Jorge Luis Gutiérrez, Universidade Mackenzie

Possui doutorado em Lógica e Filosofia da Ciência pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1993), mestrado em Lógica e Filosofia da Ciência pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1990). Possui graduação em Filosofia - Faculdaes Associadas do Ipiranga (1994), mestrado em Ciências da Religião pela Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, área Teologia e História (1988), mestrado em Ciências da Religião pela Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, área Biblia (1987). Possui cursos de especialização em Israel e Chile. Atualmente é professor da Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, professor da Faculdade de São Bento ? FSB e professor visitante da Universidad de Concepción de Chile. Tem experiência na área de Filosofia, com ênfase em Filosofia Antiga. Teve bolsas de pesquisa nos Estados Unidos, França, Espanha e México. Foi chefe do Departamento de Filosofia da Universidade Mackenzie (2001- 2004). Também foi professor titular da Umesp. Dentro de sua área de interesse, especializou-se em filosofia antiga, filosofia medieval, filosofia da religião e filosofia espanhola. Tem pesquisado, em diálogo com a física, temas como o acaso, a imprevisibilidade, a incerteza, a irreversibilidade e a liberdade humana. Em diálogo com a literatura, tem pesquisado as relações entre filosofia e poesia. É membro da "Sociedad Ibérica de Filosofía Griega".
