Abstract

In an election year, the Assemblies of God Publishing House (CPAD) chose the theme “Christian Values: Addressing the Moral Issues of Our Time” for Sunday School Bible lessons, one of the most important AD environments in Brazil. Between April and June 2018, months before the presidential election, topics such as gender ideology, human rights, abortion, sexuality and politics were addressed. The Sunday Schools have always played a fundamental role in Pentecostal education and continue to be the main link between the faithful and Pentecostal doctrine. With the onset of the political crisis in Brazil and extremism scattered everywhere, the Bible Lessons of the AD come to position their beliefs and clarify what are the values defended by the church. At the same time, Pentecostals embraced Jair Bolsonaro's candidacy for the presidency of Brazil, which presents a series of disagreements with Pentecostalism presented as an official for the Assemblies of God in his Statement of Faith.

Doutorando em Ciências da Religião pela Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (Unicap). Mestre em Teologia pela Unicap (2018). Possui graduação em Comunicação Social com habilitação em Jornalismo pela Faculdade Joaquim Nabuco (2013). Foi assessor de comunicação da OAB-PE e assessor parlamentar na Câmara Municipal do Recife.
