PASTORS OF THE ASSEMBLIES OF GOD from escatological apoliticism to moralistic approach

Abstract

The objective of this article is to illustrate the expansion, institutionalization, visibility and power that the assembled pastors built from the 1930s; and as the pastors underwent a process of social and political transformation, which led them now to hold political positions of national relevance, to the point of occupying half of the seats in the National Congress and being known as the Evangelical Parliamentary Front. The temporal cut occurs from the 1940s, pointing out some contacts of the Assemblies in the party-political sphere to the National Constituent Assembly (ANC). These facts exteriorize the construction of the centralized power of these pastors in the Assemblies throughout their history, with immense changes, raising interesting questions of the dynamics produced internally by this denomination. Analyzing the Churches of the Assemblies of God (ADs) today, requires much more than a simple reading, not to be surprised by a complex and dynamic formation. It is necessary, on the contrary, to deepen in history, to know its trajectory, the first pastoral formation of this institution, indifference to national political visibility. Therefore, this article aims to deal only with the social, political and economic transformations of the Assemblies field, mentioning, from time to time, groups from other Pentecostal perspectives.
