SPIRITUALITY AND OLD AGE perspectives in scientific production
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective was to analyze and systematize scientific production on the theme of spirituality and old age. An integrative literature review with access to the MEDLINE / PUBMED, Capes and Google Scholar databases was used. The inclusion criteria were complete articles, in the English, Spanish and Portuguese languages, in the period of 2010-2019 and that were related to the theme proposed in the title, abstract or descriptors, 15 articles comprised the study sample. From the essence of the content, three categories were abstracted: 4.1 tools and validation of instruments to assess spirituality; 4.2 spirituality, old age and suffering; 4.3 spiritual well-being and self-transcendence. The theme of spirituality in health is evident due to the robustness of scientific studies found, but few in terms of the inclusion of the elderly. It is hoped that this study will serve to foster the debate for health professionals to be considered in treatment and care practices and that they can be incorporated into public health policies, as well as in the inclusion of teaching and training of human resources in academic and professionals.
