SHARIA, RELIGION AND SECULARIZATION A possible dialogue?
Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper aims to examine the compatibility between the concepts of secularization and sharia present in Islam. The assumption underlying the text is that there is compatibility between these two historical realities. The object of this article is relevant to the Study of religion because it examines the Islam-modernity binomial. The central nucleus of the article is divided into four parts. In the first part, we try to show the origin of the word sharia and its importance in the Islamic religion. The second part examines the concept of religion in Islam. In the third part (Secularization) the concept of secularization is presented based on three authors: Casanova, Gritti, and Luckmann. Finally, the text discusses and demonstrates that it is possible to sustain compatibility between secularism and sharia and dialogue between these two realities based on the example of Turkey.
