REFLEXIONS ABOUT HUMAN NATURE AND VISIO DEI IN AUGUSTINE OF HIPPO

Abstract
This paper intends to reflect and investigate the conception of human nature in the works of Augustine of Hippo (354-430 d.C.); as well as the possibility of knowing God through the material world. In the making of his cosmogony, Augustine was heavily influenced by neoplatonism, especially Plotinus. The hiponense doesn't elaborate a systematic work about ontology. However, as it seems to us, the problem of being is present in the background of all philosophical production. The central point is found the problematic about visio Dei: how man knows and realizes the divine being only through the experience of the category of the material and changeable. This paper argues about divine knowledge from two notions: the ratio and ordo; and explains how God is in relation to himself and also to his creation.
