THE LIGHT MAN AND THE RELIGION À LA CARTE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Enrique Rojas, in his text entitled El hombre light (1992), presents the experience of the light man in postmodern culture. With the term light, the author associates the lightness of man within different areas: physical, social and psychological. However, this author considers this lightness in a negative way, stating that this light man lacks essence, since he has lost his references. This same dynamic is evident in the contemporary subject's relationship with religion. In our communication we highlight the link between the concept of light man proposed by Rojas and the religious experience in contemporary times. In order to reach our objective, we elucidate the concept of light man and then highlight the debate around religion in contemporary times, emphasizing the concept of religion à la carte which, for us, is a good reading key to establish the relationship between light man and the theme of religion. After clarifying the concepts, we came to the conclusion that the contemporary subject's way of dealing with religion is marked by the capitalist mode of production, so that religion becomes a kind of accessory to be used according to the subjects' interests.
