Abstract
O presente trabalho visa apresentar a filosofia de A.J. Heschel, sobretudo no que concerne o relacionamento entre religião e liberdade. Moldurando a reflexão no atual contexto cultural pós-moderno, o seguinte artigo mostra a ligação intrínseca entre liberdade e religião. Se isso nos dias de hoje não é tão visível é porque, segundo Heschel, a religião perdeu o rumo, se acomodando às exigências da modernidade. Somente uma revalorização da interioridade poderá levar a religião ao seu verdadeiro sentido, ou seja,
o caminho mais autentico pela liberdade humana. Para isso acontecer a religião deverá redescobrir um dos elementos específicos do próprio percurso histórico: a oração.
