Abstract
O artigo discute as características da pós-modernidade e seus impactos sobre as tradições religiosas, especialmente as ligadas ao catolicismo. Procura mostrar como, num contexto marcado pela exacerbação do individualismo, as tradições religiosas podem manter-se como formas coletivas de expressão de crenças e práticas. Descreve e analisa alguns casos de tradições católicas no Brasil que se mantêm, apesar das mudanças na filiação religiosa da população, devido à sua adaptação aos novos tempos, renovação ou mesmo reinvenção de suas práticas e de suas mensagens. Os casos focalizados são as romarias populares, o Movimento de Renovação Carismática Católico e a devoção a Nossa Senhora Desatadora dos Nós.
