Abstract
O presente artigo trata de uma reflexão acerca do Serviço Social, objeto e processo de trabalho do Assistente Social. Ao focalizar o contexto social e sua influência na dinâmica da sociedade, discute a questão social, as pressões advindas das demandas e relações sociais, bem como as exigências de inovação nas respostas da profissão. Aborda ainda a cidadania, na perspectiva da emancipação, via acesso aos direitos civis,
políticos e sociais, ressaltando princípios e possibilidades presentes na regulamentação da profissão do Assistente Social e no código de ética profissional. Finalmente este estudo chama a atenção para a importância da atitude investigativa inerente ao desempenho profissional e para a necessidade de trabalhar com instrumentos e ferramentas que propiciem o envolvimento do público-alvo no processo de trabalho.
