Abstract
Em tempos de globalização, a percepção da diluição das fronteiras culturais entre o local e o global, constituídas de temporalidades múltiplas, nas quais o novo e o velho coexistem, provoca um questionamento: qual o papel social da universidade no reconhecimento e valorização das culturas locais? Para responder a esta questão, apoiamo-nos em pesquisas aplicadas e experiências que realizamos no recorte espacial do UNILASALLE (RS), instituição da qual fazemos parte. Essas têm como temas, as dinâmicas culturais locais e memória social. Organizamos o artigo, abordando, em primeiro lugar, as culturas locais como campo do conhecimento e, após, explicitamos as relações que a universidade desenvolve com as mesmas.
