Abstract
Na atualidade o problema da violência nas escolas coloca os valores éticos no centro da ação educativa. Temas como perdão, fraternidade, libertação, tolerância, respeito à vida ou solidariedade são comuns a todas as tradições religiosas. Neste contexto, a disciplina de Ensino Religioso, desde uma perspectiva realmente inter-religiosa e pluricultural, aparece como o espaço escolar privilegiado para educação nos valores, especialmente para a paz. No presente artigo, após uma apresentação do fenômeno da violência no ambiente escolar, destaca-se o papel das religiões na construção de um ethos comum para a humanidade e a importância da educação na concretização desse projeto ético. Finalmente é mostrada a viabilidade de uma educação para a paz nas escolas através de um programa de intervenção psicopedagógica implementado nas aulas de Ensino Religioso de quatro centros educativos, públicos e privados, da região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte.
