Abstract
O presente artigo objetiva ser uma modesta e breve tentativa de listar alguns subsídios textuais preliminares para uma introdução ao conceito de linguagem (vac) na Índia antiga, sublinhando seus aspectos linguísticos, religiosos e culturais bem como sua relação com algumas topografias da realidade posteriores, como aquelas encontradas nos Upaniśads. O estudo divide-se em três momentos: uma introdução, perfazendo um conjunto de observações gerais acerca da literatura védica mais antiga; desenvolvimento, onde são analisados dois hinos védicos centrados na linguagem e conclusão, onde procura se demonstrar a repercussão dos textos védicos nas Upaniśads.
