O objetivo principal do artigo é analisar, a partir da noção de representações, o modo como as Alocuções Semanais do Arcebispo Metropolitano de Porto Alegre, D. Vicente Scherer, importante representante do clero católico nacional à época, se reportaram sobre o Golpe de 1964 e em quais termos propuseram um conjunto de manifestações anticomunistas no período imediatamente (início de abril até fins de maio) após a ruptura institucional e consequente destituição de João Goulart da Presidência. A partir do mês de maio de 1964 até dezembro de 1965 é possível constatar que os textos do Arcebispo acabaram por apresentar algumas significativas transformações na forma como o anticomunismo passou a ser difundido quando comparados com aqueles que os antecederam. Nesse sentido, o artigo também pretende identificar como se deu, a partir das alocuções do Arcebispo, a construção de uma paulatina desvinculação do “perigo comunista” com a realidade nacional, além de buscar elementos explicativos acerca da quase completa ausência de textos anticomunistas assinados por católicos, inclusive pelo próprio D. Vicente Scherer, após o golpe de 1964. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa foram utilizadas fontes jornalísticas, especificamente os principais jornais de Porto Alegre à época, Diário de Notícia e Correio do Povo.

Abstract

The main objective is to analyze, from the notion of representation, how the Weekly  Speeches of Archbishop of Porto Alegre, D. Vicente Scherer, important representative of the national Catholic clergy at the time, were reported about the Coup of 1964 and on what terms proposed a set of anticommunist demonstrations in the immediate period ( early April to late May) after institutional breakdown and consequent dismissal of João Goulart presidency. From May of 1964 to December of 1965 it is clear that the texts of the Archbishop presented some significant changes in how the anticommunism became widespread when compared with those who preceded them. In this sense, the article also seeks to identify how it came from the  speeches of Archbishop of, building a gradual disengagement of the " communist threat " to national reality , and seek explanatory material about the almost complete absence of anti texts signed by Catholics , including the Don Vicente Scherer himself after the 1964 coup . To develop of this research, journalistic sources , specifically the major newspapers in Porto Alegre at the time, Diario de Notícias  and Correio do Povo  were used .
