Abstract
O objetivo do presente artigo é investigar os antecedentes da Teologia da Libertação entre os protestantes brasileiros, notadamente através da presença do missionário presbiteriano Richard Shaull (1920-2002) no Brasil dos anos 60 do século passado. Seu legado foi importante para toda uma geração de brasileiros e decisivo na formação da chamada Teologia da Libertação, em geral mais identificada, posteriormente, com a Igreja Católica. Desse modo, o intuito do presente trabalho é mostrar que tal teologia também teve impacto entre os protestantes e foi marcante para toda uma geração de ministros e leigos, a despeito de ter sido abortada tanto pelo Golpe Militar de 1964 como pela reação conservadora do próprio protestantismo.
