MINING IN SERRO? NO! AND SABINÓPOLIS?

The regional character of mining and the need to include Sabinópolis in mining debates in the Serro region

Abstract

The central theme of this article is the analysis of mining in the regions of Serro and Sabinópolis, in the state of Minas Gerais, emphasizing the need to include Sabinópolis in debates about mining in the Serro region. To this end, based on the theoretical-dogmatic methodological aspect, research of a participatory or engaged nature was carried out, with the hearing of people, families and communities affected by mining in Conceição do Mato Dentro and the region, in the state of Minas Gerais, in addition to the collection of bibliographic data. From this research, some results are mentioned throughout the text, with an emphasis on existential damage and damage to the life project, which can (and should) be the subject of the proposed debates.
