The foundation of the first Jesuit schools in Brazil just 49 years after it discovery did not prevent that the spread of the teaching, more specifically, of history teaching, take place late and slowly. As a consequence, it is to be expected that its people have no affinity with the study of the discipline initiated by Herodotus, in the Ancient Greece. This article aims, therefore, to demonstate how the lack of historical awareness, inherited from the colonization of a metropolis that did not consider education as a priority, is reflected in the brazilian way of dealing with world crises, in this case, woth the current pandemic caused by COVID-19 virus.
