Abstract

This paper debates the symbolic consumption of the work of the violinist André Rieu, understanding it as a strategy for symbolic profit and evidences of distinction. Resulting from the analysis of 16 hours of recordings of Rieu’s shows available in Brazil in DVDs, the paper proposes a debate based on the concepts of social fields, social space, distinction, invented traditions and culture industry.
