Based on the analysis of the telefilm “O Natal de Rita” (Ricardo Alves Jr., 2017), this paper focusses on the transformations and/or reinventions of the comedy genre in contemporary times. Its main hypothesis points to failure as a central concept in order to understand these reinventions. They operate not only at the content level, as a resignification of maladjustment or failure, but also formally, through the construction of a dramaturgical structure composed of flaws. This apprehension may favor the understanding of how the aesthetic transformations of comedy can contribute to a discussion about the creation of new ways of thinking individual and collective failures, especially in periods of crisis.
